We will use a variety of air drying modeling clays that we finish with paints in a rainbow of colors. This workshop will help students learn about the exciting things that modeling clay can create and build their understanding of how shape, image, texture, detail, pattern and color all combine to create expressive pottery.

Each project has two classes. We will make the pottery project in the first class, paint it in the next class and then take it home. Each class is designed to instruct the pottery skills relevant to the project but also will allow students enough time to make other work when they have finished the class project.

1 & 2 Birds We’ll learn about making pinch pots and how we can turn our pinch pots into birds with heads, beaks & tails. If we want we can add wings and maybe make a pinch pot nest with eggs. We’ll paint our birds with glossy paints that make them shimmer.
3 & 4 Dragon We’ll use a coil that we fold on itself and modeling tools to make dragons with scales, faces, horns and decorations. We’ll use glitter glue on top of the paints that we use to give each dragon glimmer & sparkle.
5 & 6 Freaky Fish We’ll learn how to join two pinch pots to make a bubble shape for a fish body. We’ll add fins, tails, buggy eyes, and silly features to make a fish that we paint with all kinds of colors.
7 & 8 Delicious Deserts We’ll use the pottery techniques that we’re learning to make things like ice cream in a dish with sprinkles & cherries and a slice of cherry pie on a plate. We’ll paint our desserts in mouth-watering colors. What kind of dessert do you want to make?
9 & 10 Bugs! Bees! & more... We’ll make all kinds of bugs; caterpillars, bees, ladybugs, maybe butterflies and beetles... We’ll use chenille sticks to add legs and antennas, then paint our creations in a rainbow of colors.
11 & 12 Baby Monster We’ll use pinch pots that we turn upside down to make baby monsters with legs, faces and arms. When we paint our monsters we will use glitter to make each monster sparkle.
13 & 14 Face plates & wall hangers we’ll learn to make slabs that we drape in paper plate molds to make plates we can decorate. This plate is a sun but each student can make any face they want; their favorite animal or maybe a flower. We’ll paint our plates in a rainbow of colors.
  1. The cost of each class is eighteen dollars ($18), plus a two dollar ($2) materials fee, for each student, for a total cost of twenty dollars ($20), per student, per class. So, the total cost of a four week workshop would be 20 x 4 for a total of $80 or 20 x 8 for a total of $160 for an eight week workshop.

  2. More information on our fees.
